Abstract：There are two kinds of ideological orientation about the reflections on modernity from contemporary philosophers:one is"go ahead",the other is the "back forward"which is rethinking the philosophical history.Compared with the negative demolitions of tradition in Nietzsche and Heidegger,which push modern problems further to the extreme of post-modern tendency,Leo Strauss's thoughts tried to explore the esoteric meaning of ancient writings,with the help of the thoughts in classical political philosophy,to diagnose the troubles of modern problems.Based on the"back forward"instead of"going ahead"orientation,this paper tries to reveal three faces of Socrates'problem,clear up the original field of political philosophy,understand modern fracture of the political philosophy by contrasting the Classic with the Modern,and try to point out this change's impact on the crisis of modern Western culture.Finally,this paper makes some critical"responses" on the limits of Leo Strauss's thinking.
